Giving Back to Society Can Be Fun - Volunteering with Mölkky for the Elderly

Giving Back to Society Can Be Fun⭐ Volunteering with Mölkky for the Elderly💓

Around sixty elderly members from the elderly care services centres under the Christian Family Service Centre (CFSC) recently gathered at The Wave to participate in a Mölkky Fun Day sponsored by the EuroGroup. They teamed up with sixty EuroGroup volunteers to compete. Two rounds of the competition were filled with excitement and cheers from the elderly participants and volunteers alike.

The elderly participants, regularly trained at the centre, showed impressive skills and confidence in enjoying the competition. Many EuroGroup volunteers who were trying Mölkky for the first time found the game easy to grasp and fun to play and were amazed by the skills and enthusiasm of the elderly players. The volunteers believe that regular training significantly benefits the elderly's health.

Fun and Care for the Elderly

Volunteers went above and beyond to ensure the comfort and enjoyment of the elderly participants. Beyond the competition, they prepared snacks, made photo cards as souvenirs, and gave each elderly participant a gift bag filled with daily necessities and food items. The event was marked by laughter and mutual encouragement, creating a time filled with fun and affection.

Volunteer's Voice

Candy, EuroGroup Volunteer

Candy, a EuroGroup volunteer who experienced Mölkky for the first time, said, "I’m very happy to play with the elderly. They are very lively and skilled. It’s great to learn from them!" Yin Fun, a 72-year-old participant from the same team, also enjoyed the event immensely: "I’m very happy. I love it. I’ve been practising at the centre almost every week for nearly a year, and today was fantastic!" she said with a satisfied smile.

👩🏻‍🦳Enhancing the Physical and Mental Health of the Elderly

The Mölkky program implemented by CFSC for the elderly care services unit significantly enhances the physical and mental health and social abilities of the elderly. Regular training helps improve their physical functions and cognitive and calculation abilities. By organizing group competitions, the elderly can showcase the results of their consistent practice, demonstrate team spirit, and enhance social interactions and communication among themselves. This helps encourage the elderly to go out more and actively participate in community activities, leading to a richer and more fulfilling life.

🎓A Brief Introduction to Mölkky

Mölkky is an open-skill game that requires adjustments based on the environment or opponents, thus enhancing cardiovascular function and cognitive abilities. It helps the elderly maintain self-care and independent living skills. Mölkky is a team-based, safe, and highly enjoyable activity that allows the elderly to express themselves and enjoy the thrill of competition.
